Oblates of Saint Benedict are Christian individuals or families who have associated themselves with a Benedictine community in order to enrich their Christian way of life. Oblates shape their lives by living the wisdom of Christ Jesus as interpreted by Saint Benedict. Oblates seek God by striving to become holy in their chosen way of life. By integrating their prayer and work, they manifest Christ’s presence in society.
The role of Oblates is to live in the world, to become holy in the world, to do what they can to bring the world to God by being witnesses of Christ by word and example to those around them.
Oblates concern themselves with striving to be what they are, people of God and temples of the Holy Spirit. Oblates do not take on a new set of religious practices and are not required to say a certain number of prayers or engage in special devotions. They do not live in religious community or take vows, but take promises to live by the spirit of the Rule of Saint Benedict in support of their local community or House.
Semi-eremitical Brothers and Sisters of the Benedictine Community of Saint Anthony is another form of consecration that exists. Semi-eremitical Brothers and Sisters do take vows, and it is a commitment that is available for those journeying on a sincere search for a fuller human and spiritual participation with Jesus in the light and wisdom of the teachings of the Catholic Church, Mary our Mother and witness, and in the spirit of Regula.
All Benedictine Monks and Semi-eremitical monks enter a Novitiate period in their formation and then make temporary vows. Oblates also enter a Novitiate period and take temporary promises for three consecutive years as a period of discernment.
As Benedictines, Filly Professed Monks, Semi-eremitical monks, and Oblates, we moreover seek the face of God by following the Regula of Saint Benedict and we grow as a Christian community through the Monastic practices of obedience, stability, conversation, work and prayer.
Grace Apostolic Benedictine House of Prayer meets on the first Monday of the Month at 6:30 pm for prayer, recitation of the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours), the Rosary, or the Holy Mass.
